Assistant Director Training Clinic/ Tenure Track Assistant Professor

School of Professional Psychology

Spalding University, Louisville, KY

The School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) at Spalding University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to serve both as an Assistant Professor within our APA Accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology and as the Assistant Director in our Center for Behavioral Health, the department training clinic. Outstanding postdoctoral candidates will be considered. Ability to teach foundational clinical courses (e.g. Intervention, Ethics, Psychopathology) required. Candidates who speak Spanish, have minoritized identities, and/or who have expertise in health psychology and/or assessment are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology either with or eligibility for licensure in KY.

We seek candidates who are passionate about graduate student training, teaching, and supervising, while also contributing to the collaborative nature of our faculty. Successful candidates will be expected to achieve a strong balance across the three domains of teaching, scholarship, and service in the department as well as in the Center for Behavioral Health (https://behavioralhealth.spalding.edu/). First, they will be strong teachers who utilize best practices in teaching and enjoy student mentoring. They will need to be competent in supervision and support the operations of our department training clinic. Second, they will be thoughtful scholars with either a record of presenting and/or publishing in their chosen research interest areas or demonstrated promise to do so. Third, they will possess a cooperative spirit to work collegially with others on university and departmental service committees. The position offers scheduling flexibility (other than class times) and faculty members are encouraged to use up to eight hours per week in research, consultation, direct service (e.g. private practice) and/or supervision. Opportunities also exist to engage in direct service as part of the Faculty Practice Plan in the Center for Behavioral Health.

Spalding University was founded in 1814 to provide quality education, and our vibrant university mission is built around creating a diverse community of learners committed to meeting the needs of our time through the promotion of peace and justice. We offer a BA in Psychology and a PsyD in clinical psychology (which has been fully accredited by APA since 1989). Our doctoral program is a scholar-practitioner model that offers outstanding generalist training with opportunities to also gain focused training in Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Neuropsychology (child/adolescent and adult), or Advanced Clinical Psychology. A strength of our university is its location in downtown Louisville, which allows our students a wide variety of practicum experiences working with traditionally marginalized and underserved individuals. As a program, we are strongly committed to attracting and supporting students and faculty with marginalized identities who also tend to be underrepresented in the field of psychology.
